A user-driven approach

January 2011

MyOcean will implement the pan-European marine service for ocean monitoring and forecasting for the global ocean and European seas. To achieve this goal, MyOcean strives to elaborate ocean information and create value according to the marine-related sectors and their users.

MyOcean promotes structured interaction with Users so the service will be commissioned and validated by external users:

  • A NETWORK OF PARTNERS, part of the consortium but not involved in the MyOcean service provision, ensure links with key users, collect user requirements and organise assessment.

MyOcean network of Reference Intermediate Users
MyOcean has a network of reference intermediate users spread over 28 countries.

  • Member State service providers, as users of the MyOcean service, act as ‘BETA-TESTERS’. They evaluate the scientific quality and benefits of MyOcean products & services.
  • PARTNERSHIP WITH EUROPEAN AGENCIES (related to each area of benefit), such as EEA (European Environment Agency) and EMSA (European Maritime Safety Agency) to ensure the required level of specification and assessment of the MyOcean service.
  • LINKS WITH INTERGOVERNMENTAL BODIES(related to each area of benefit) to ensure requirements and feedback on the MyOcean offer.
  • External validation of service quality is annually reported in USER COMMISSIONING FORUMS involving service providers and users.
  • A “CORE USER GROUP” acts as an advisory body for MyOcean in any strategic or steering issue and expresses MyOcean Users’ voice at the Board level.
